LAC (Learning Assistance and Accommodations)

You can make an appointment with Mrs. Joseph if you are in grades 7 through 12 and require classroom accommodations, academic testing, learning assistance, IPP or behavioural support.
Guidance Counsellors
You can make an appointment with your grade counsellor for support in areas such as:
-to talk about friendships, family, relationships, conflict, stress, anger, addiction or grief
-to get help with credits, transitions, post secondary applications and scholarships
-to help you with strategies to reduce anxiety or build self-regulation and executive functioning
-a quiet, safe place with low stimuli lighting or someone to just ‘hold space for you’ that day
-support with identity, sexual orientation or gender identity.
-to help you with problem solving, metacognition, or self-advocating for your needs
-to help schedule classes that are appropriate to your academic and career needs and goals
-Course Change Request Form (copies available in Student Services)
-our goal-to help you access available and appropriate resources in the school or community

Ms. Park and Mrs Terry will be assessing English levels this semester to ensure we provide the right support for your success in the classroom. If you are an English Language Learner and would like support, you can email Mrs. Park and she can help you, let you know your benchmark, or refer you to resources. Multicultural Association often has free virtual English tutoring. ELL students qualify for extra time on tests and use of a translator in the classroom.

If you would like to talk to someone about Work Experience Credits, Volunteer Credits, HCS 3000, the RAP or Co-op program, and the world of trades you can make an appointment with Mrs. Mellsen via email. Note other dual credit programs such as health services, welding, electrical and NDT. Mrs. Stang in the main office can also help answer your questions about Work Experience credits.
Cultural Navigator

Westwood is happy to have a First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Support Space. There you will find Ms. Pollyanna McBain every Tuesday. At lunch time every day , the space becomes “The Lounge” (supervised by student services staff) and all students are welcome to relax, have a chat, or play ping pong. Mr. Kouyoumdjian and Ms. Park are also Indigenous support staff to reach out to this semester.
Honours & Advanced Placement Navigator

Ms. Closson is our Honours and Advanced Placement Program Navigator. Speak with her if you have general questions about our programming, university placement, college board navigation, or referral to resources.
Mrs. Tulk and Mrs. Terry will be coordinating the AP exams for senior students. Speak with them about your AP exam writing sessions. Experts in Advanced Placement Courses are the Honours and AP teachers, for questions about the material ask your teacher and access the college board’s AP website https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/
